Flamengo edged Corinthians 1-0 on Wednesday evening at Estádio Luso Brasileiro in the first leg of the second phase of the Brazilian U-17 Championship. João Vitor Couto's clinical finish gave the Rio de Janeiro side a significant advantage heading into the return fixture.
With the result in hand, Flamengo's youth academy side will secure passage to the semifinals with even a draw in next Tuesday's decider in São Paulo.
Match Report
The opening period proved lively, with Flamengo combining attacking intent with impressive defensive discipline to neutralize Corinthians' forays forward.
As the first half drew to a close, João Vitor Couto emerged to break the deadlock. The No. 10 latched onto Isaac Gomes' cross from the right flank at the 45-minute mark to seal the breakthrough.
Fresh from competing in the 2026 UEFA Friendship Cup with Brazil's U-17 squad, the prolific teenager has now amassed 24 goals this season and notched his 16th in this tournament.

The second half remained competitive, with both sides manufacturing clear-cut opportunities. Gabriel Werneck's commanding display between the sticks and Flamengo's resolute defending kept Corinthians at bay, as the scoreline remained intact through the final whistle.
Flamengo fielded eight players from the 2010 generation—several of whom are also age-eligible for the U-16 category—as part of the club's player development pathway.
Daniel Silva, the side's captain and fellow Brazil U-17 international, underscored the significance of victory whilst tempering expectations ahead of the return leg.
"We're pleased with the win, but we know nothing is settled yet. We have another 90 minutes ahead. We'll work hard through the week, iron out our mistakes, and go to São Paulo fully focused on securing our place in the semifinal."
