Flamengo suffer 4-0 defeat to Vasco in Guanabara Cup youth clash

Flamengo were beaten 4-0 by Vasco on Sunday (11) at Estádio Nivaldo Pereira in Nova Iguaçu during the 10th round of the 2026 Guanabara Cup U-20 competition. Lucas Melim, Juninho, Bruno Lopes and Andrey Fernandes scored for the Cruz-Maltino side.

Despite the result, the Garotos do Ninho remain in contention to win the Guanabara Cup. The squad has already secured qualification for the State Championship, which features the eight highest-placed teams from the opening phase.

Flamengo arrived at the classic just days after eliminating Vasco in the second round of the Copa do Brasil U-20. On Thursday (8), the sides drew 2-2 in regular time, with the Rubro-Negro advancing via penalties.

On this occasion, Vasco opened the scoring in the seventh minute of the first half through Lucas Melim.

Juninho doubled the Cruz-Maltino advantage just one minute into the second period. Bruno Lopes added a third at the 20-minute mark, and Andrey Fernandes sealed the win four minutes later, making it 4-0.

Flamengo now turn their attention to the Copa do Brasil U-20, where they remain alive and face Criciúma in the Round of 16. The first leg will take place on Wednesday (14) at 3 p.m. at CT George Helal in Rio de Janeiro. The return fixture is scheduled for Tuesday (20) at 7:30 p.m. at Estádio Heriberto Hülse in Criciúma (SC).
