Flamengo reach International Stars Cup final with 1-0 win over Paraguay

Flamengo have secured their place in the International Stars Cup final. On Wednesday afternoon, the club's U20 women's side defeated Paraguay's national team 1-0, with a goal from Ana Papel, to advance to the showpiece. The Rubro-Negro now await the winner of the Real Madrid versus São Paulo semi-final to discover their opponent.

The Match

The encounter began with both sides cautious in their approach, with few clear-cut openings materialising in the early stages. Gradually, Flamengo attempted to impose their style of play but were met with resolute Paraguayan defending. Maria Fernanda provided the first moment of real threat, winning the ball in a contested challenge near the area, only to be thwarted at the moment of striking.

Despite some loose play in possession, the Rubro-Negro weathered the discomfort and broke the deadlock. On 26 minutes, Isabela Nunes delivered a set piece into the box, Paraguay's defence failed to clear the danger, and Ana Papel struck a fine finish past the goalkeeper—1-0. After the goal came a water break, during which Campos came close to extending the lead. The forward received from Ana Papel but saw her effort cannon off the post.

The second half followed a similar pattern, though Paraguay enjoyed slightly more of the ball and forced goalkeeper Dome Palacios into several saves in the opening minutes. In the 24th minute of the second period, Leane nearly doubled Flamengo's advantage. As the match wore on, the Girls from Gávea steadily managed their lead to secure passage to the final.

Flamengo's U20 side return to action on Saturday at Canindé, facing either Real Madrid or São Paulo at 18:00 local time.
