Flamengo's debut in the Campeonato Carioca will be against Portuguesa and the 24 players selected for the match are formed in the club's youth categories, with an average age of approximately 18 and a half years. The Garotos do Ninho will take the field this Sunday (11), at 18 pm, at the Raulino de Oliveira Stadium, in Volta Redonda. The match will be broadcast on TV Globo.Flamengo's youth football director, Alfredo Almeida, is confident in achieving the goals set in one of the club's most strategic areas. Competing in the start of the Carioca Championship with all players developed by Flamengo is a source of satisfaction and fulfills one of the main roles of the under-20 category, in addition to developing players: supplying the needs of Flamengo's professional football team.
"Each athlete who will represent Flamengo in the Carioca Championship debut has earned their place through their journey in the club's youth system. Now all they need is courage, humility, and above all, responsibility. In any circumstance, they must play with dedication, respect, and commitment, always striving to honor the Flamengo jersey because they have the full support and backing of President Bap. Our confidence in the entire team is enormous," assures the director.
Bruno Pivetti, coach of Flamengo's under-20 team, arrived at the club in July of last year. So far, he has managed the "Garotos do Ninho" (Flamengo's youth team) in 25 games, with 15 wins, five draws, and five losses, for a 66,6% success rate. This will not be the first time Pivetti has played against professional teams. Last year, Flamengo's youth team beat Bayer Leverkusen 5-1 in an international friendly and drew 3-3 with Mirassol away from home in the final round of the Brazilian Championship.
"We've been working with this squad for the Campeonato Carioca since the end of last year, after the conclusion of the Brazilian Série A in early December, when many players had the opportunity to participate in the match against Mirassol, in which we played a great game. These are players born in 2007, 2006, and 2005, but we are well-prepared collectively to prevent any fluctuations, which are normal at younger ages," says the coach, who spoke a little about the expectations of the Flamengo youth team.
"It's a great opportunity for them to show themselves to the club. They are players who know each other well, who have been working together since last year, and we have a strong team, with individual talents who will put themselves at the service of the team. We do hard work in the youth categories, and the players always have this eagerness to represent Flamengo's main team and our fans in the best way possible," he added.
