Sesc RJ Flamengo begin Superliga Feminina campaign at home against Barueri

Sesc RJ Flamengo are ready for a demanding journey in pursuit of their 13th Superliga Feminina title, Brazil's premier women's volleyball competition. The Rubro-Negro's campaign under coach Bernardinho begins on Monday (19.10) at 9pm against Paulistano Barueri at Tijuca Tênis Clube. Tickets are on sale via Guichê Web. SporTV2 will broadcast live.

The competition's most decorated side and runners-up in the previous season, Flamengo's squad stability gives them a strong foundation to remain among the elite. Their opening fixture against a young and reshuffled Paulistano Barueri promises to be tricky, with the visitors likely to attack aggressively and test the hosts' focus.

"We know it's a dangerous match against a team willing to take risks, but our focus is on victory. We desperately want this title and we're taking it step by step. The Superliga is a long tournament that grows stronger every year. The challenges are always enormous. There's no secret — just hard work and the pursuit of consistency", said captain and libero Laís.

Sesc RJ Flamengo arrive in buoyant form after two titles in the early part of the season. In September, the Rubro-Negro dispatched Fluminense and Dentil Praia Clube to claim the Copa SuperVôlei trophy. Last Tuesday, Bernardinho's side secured their 21st Rio de Janeiro State Championship title by defeating Fluminense in the final at their rivals' home.

"We've had a special start to the season. Two titles, great unity and the strength of our group, despite some injury concerns. That certainly gives us the motivation to go all out in our Superliga debut", Laís concluded.

Sesc RJ Flamengo topped the national competition in the 1997/1998 and 1999/2000 seasons (both in Curitiba), 2005/2006, 2006/2007, 2007/2008, 2008/2009, 2010/2011, 2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015, 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 (all in Rio de Janeiro).
