Flamengo thrashes Bangu 3-0 for fifth consecutive Guanabara Cup win at U-20

Flamengo dispatched Bangu 3-0 on Friday morning (4th) at CT Saferj in the fifth round of the U-20 Guanabara Cup. Jhefinho, Diego Queiroz and Andrew scored for the Rubro-Negro.

With the victory, the Nest Boys extended their tally to 15 points, having scored 14 goals and conceded just three. The academy side now shifts focus to their U-20 Copa do Brasil debut.

Bangu came out seeking to impose a strong tempo, but Flamengo remained composed and assured in possession.

In the eighth minute, Joshua—wearing number 10—executed an excellent run down the flank and picked out Jhefinho (No. 8), who opened the scoring. It was Jhefinho's second Guanabara Cup goal and fourth of the season.

On the resumption, Flamengo extended their advantage. In the 4th minute of the second half, Joshua swung a corner from the left and found Diego Queiroz. The centre-back (No. 3) rose highest to head home and make it 2-0.

It was Joshua's second assist of the match. For Queiroz, it was his first Guanabara Cup goal and second of the campaign.

In the final stages, at 46 minutes, Miguel Távora regained possession and released Andrew, who found Victor Hugo and initiated the run. The No. 23 received the ball back in the box after a well-timed pass and was brought down by goalkeeper Christian Pereira, who conceded a penalty.

Andrew took the spot kick himself, converting to the upper right corner to seal a 3-0 triumph. All three players involved in the move—Miguel Távora, Victor Hugo and Andrew—had entered from the bench in the second period.
