Flamengo drew 1-1 with América-MG on Monday (10) at the Arena Urbsan in Betim, Minas Gerais, in the 15th round of the Brazilian Women's Championship. Despite controlling much of the match and creating the best chances, the Rubro-Negro fell behind but earned a draw through Cristiane in the second half. With the result, the club remains ninth in the standings with 24 points.
Match summary
Flamengo started aggressively in Betim, seizing control of the attacking play from the start. América-MG struggled to build from the back against the visitors' aggressive pressing. In the 10th minute, Mariana tested her luck from the edge of the box, and the shot narrowly missed the target.
Minutes later, after a poor clearance by Flamengo's defence, Dani Ortolan found herself one-on-one with goalkeeper Vivi Holzel and opened the scoring for the home side. The goal came at a moment when Flamengo were applying constant pressure and had the upper hand in possession.
Searching for an equalizer, Flamengo continued attacking and created several opportunities, but lacked precision in front of goal. At 41 minutes, Djeni thought she had levelled, but the referee ruled the goal out for offside in the build-up. The first half ended with América-MG holding onto their lead.
In the second half, manager Celso Silva made two changes, bringing on Maísa and Letícia for Jucinara and Ju Ferreira respectively.
Flamengo finally found their reward through persistence. Cristiane smashed home after a scramble in the box to draw level in Betim.
Late in the game, Flamengo nearly grabbed a winner at the 36-minute mark. Following a corner on the first post, Núbia controlled and rolled the ball to Letícia, who fired toward goal. The América-MG defence cleared off the line.
In stoppage time, goalkeeper Sandy was outstanding, making two crucial saves. The first came from a Laysa deflection, while the second followed a well-placed shot from Fernanda. After that final save, the referee brought the match to a close.
