Everything still to play for in the semi-final. Flamengo have drawn 0-0 with Bahia on Tuesday evening (3) at Arena Fonte Nova in the opening leg of their Copa do Brasil Feminina semi-final tie. In a tightly contested match, the Rubro-Negro created chances to break the deadlock and will now have the opportunity to settle the tie at home in front of their supporters. The second leg takes place on Saturday (7) at 21:30 (BRT) at Luso-Brasileiro stadium. Victory for either side will guarantee a place in the final against Internacional or RB Bragantino.
The match
Bahia set the tempo early and looked to impose themselves offensively. In one of Flamengo's first breaks forward, they almost took the lead in the fourth minute. Yanne misdirected her clearance, allowing Cristiane to strike, but her effort under pressure went wide.
The Rubro-Negro created another promising opening on 15 minutes. Laysa advanced down the right flank, cut into the box and fired a shot that struck the post and narrowly missed the target.
Shortly after that passage of play, the forward fell awkwardly, received medical attention and had to be replaced by Letícia. On 30 minutes, Bahia posed a threat of their own when Vivi Holzel produced a fine save with her feet. Controlling possession, the home side fashioned the best chances of the opening period, which ended without a goal.
In the second half, Bahia maintained their attacking approach while Flamengo pressed higher to regain possession in the opponent's half. As the match wore on, the tempo dipped and both sides struggled with their passing accuracy.
Halfway through the second period, head coach Celso Silva made two changes to the Rubro-Negro line-up. Maísa and Sandoval came on to replace Jucinara and Cristiane respectively. Later, Layza Cavalcanti and Anna Luiza were also introduced, replacing Núbia and Mariana.
In the closing stages, Tchula made a hard challenge on Djeni and was shown a straight red card, leaving Bahia down to ten players. However, the Rubro-Negro captain also had to depart the pitch following the incident. With Flamengo having already made all five permitted substitutions, the side also ended the match with ten players.
After seven minutes of added time, the referee brought proceedings to a close at Arena Fonte Nova. With the scoreline locked at 0-0, the question of who advances to the final will be decided in Rio. On Saturday (7), the Rubro-Negro will look to settle the tie at Luso-Brasileiro. The winners will face either Internacional or RB Bragantino in the decider.
