Marcelo Gomes clinches two gold medals at South American Games judo

Flamengo judoka Marcelo Gomes delivered a standout performance at the Santa Fe 2026 South American Games, securing two gold medals in Rosario, Argentina. The rubro-negro athlete claimed the individual crown in the men's 90kg category and proved decisive in Brazil's mixed team triumph.

In the individual competition held on Saturday (19), Marcelo defeated Peru's Yuta Galarreta with an ippon on golden score to clinch the gold. The Flamengo star had previously dispatched Venezuela's Johnhelius Patete and Ecuador's John Caicedo, maintaining an undefeated record throughout the category.

On Sunday (20), Marcelo returned to the mat with a crucial role in the second gold. After helping Brazil overcome Venezuela 4-1 in the semifinal, the Mengao judoka sealed victory against Peru in the final. With a waza-ari on golden score, he secured Brazil's 4-0 triumph and completed his South American Games campaign with a perfect record and two gold medals.
