Flamengo trio powers Brazil's perfect start at South American championship

Brazil launched their South American Women's Volleyball Championship campaign in perfect fashion at Maracanãzinho, with Tainara, Lorena and Vivian—all representing Sesc RJ Flamengo—among the squad as the national team claimed back-to-back 3-0 victories. In their opening match on Tuesday (8), Brazil swept Venezuela 25-14, 25-13, 25-19. On Wednesday (9), they followed suit against Peru, taking the points 25-16, 25-16, 25-15.

The Flamengo contingent had extra reason to celebrate as the tournament got underway. Lorena stood out in the Venezuela triumph, recording 11 points—nine from attacks and two from blocks. The match also marked the senior national team debut for setter Vivian. Tainara rounds out the trio selected by coach José Roberto Guimarães for the competition.

With two wins and six points, Brazil top the standings and remain focused on securing continental glory and the Olympic ticket for Los Angeles 2028 reserved for the champions. Their next test comes Thursday (10) at 20:00 against Colombia. After that, the squad faces Chile on Saturday (12) at 13:30, before concluding the group stage against Argentina on Sunday (13) at noon.
