Sesc RJ Flamengo opens Superliga campaign with straight-sets win over Paulistano Barueri

Sesc RJ Flamengo marked their Superliga Feminina 2026/2027 debut with a commanding display at home. On Monday evening (19.10), Bernardinho's squad showcased tactical discipline and dispatched Paulistano Barueri 3-0, winning sets 25-19, 25-21 and 25-14 at Tijuca Gymnasium in the opening round of Brazil's premier domestic competition.

On a night of Rubro-Negro dominance, American outside hitter Simone Lee led the scoring chart with 16 points (15 kills and one ace). Central blocker Lorena finished with 12 points (eight kills with 89% efficiency, three blocks and one ace) and claimed the VivaVôlei player-of-the-match award.

"I managed to communicate well with the entire squad. Everyone was really in sync. We did commit some careless errors, but that's normal at the start of a season. We're building something for the long term and it's been very special. I'm delighted with this group. I spent six productive months with the national team and prepared myself to experience something extraordinary here with this squad," Lorena said.

Sesc RJ Flamengo's next fixture comes away from home on Friday (23.10) at 18:30 local time, when they travel to face Brasília Vôlei at the Federal Volleyball Gymnasium in Brasília for round two of the Superliga, with coverage on GE TV.

The competition's most decorated club with 13 titles, Sesc RJ Flamengo topped the podium in seasons 1997/1998 and 1999/2000 (both in Curitiba), 2005/2006, 2006/2007, 2007/2008, 2008/2009, 2010/2011, 2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015, 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 (in Rio de Janeiro).
