Through to the Quarters! Flamengo Defeats América-MG in Brazilian U-17 Championship
Rubro-Negro clinches last-eight spot with 1-0 victory at Gávea; Corinthians await in knockout stages

Flamengo secured a 1-0 victory over América-MG on Wednesday (30th) at Estádio da Gávea in the 19th round of the Brazilian U-17 Championship. Isaac Gomes struck the decisive goal.
With the win, Flamengo's youth side reached 33 points from nine victories, six draws and four defeats, scoring 37 and conceding 22, and locked in a quarter-final berth. Corinthians will be their opponents in a two-legged tie. The CBF will confirm dates, kick-off times and venues in due course.

The Match
The opening 45 minutes proved lively, with Flamengo creating several opportunities and pressing for an opener from the start. Despite their chances, the half ended goalless.
The second half remained intense, with both sides generating openings.
In the 31st minute of the second half, Flamengo was awarded a penalty. Isaac Gomes struck powerfully into the left corner to seal the victory and the qualification.

It was another fixture in which Flamengo took to the field without João Vitor Couto and Daniel Silva, both on international duty with the Brazilian U-17 national team. Goalkeeper Gabriel Werneck was also unavailable owing to suspension.
Following the match, head coach Daniel Franklin emphasised the squad's progression over the campaign and looked ahead to the knockout rounds:
"Our start to the competition wasn't what we wanted, but thereafter we strung together 13 unbeaten games. Regardless, what matters is qualifying. We know our strength and our quality. We're expecting a strong quarter-final."
Isaac Gomes, who scored the clinching goal, also reflected on the moment and the road ahead:
"Delighted to have scored and helped the team. Now we'll focus and train hard for next week."
