Operário opened aggressively and created danger in the opening minutes, but Flamengo responded well and fashioned several opportunities throughout the first half. Sayago and João Vitor Couto forced saves from Matheus Lopes, while Léo Nannetti was also tested by Operário's attacking thrusts.
Flamengo pressed forward and came close to breaking the deadlock early in the second period. Sayago fed João Vitor Couto, who fired over the bar. Moments later, Josmar headed wide after a cross from Diego Guimarães.
