In a match played at Estádio Luso Brasileiro on Thursday evening (15), Flamengo were defeated by Fluminense 2-1 in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil Feminina quarter-finals. Attacker Laysa scored Flamengo's goal. With this result, Celso Silva's side will need to secure victory next week to progress to the semi-finals.
Match report
Flamengo started carelessly, allowing Fluminense some clear-cut opportunities, but goalkeeper Vivi Holzel kept her concentration and made several important saves. Flamengo's first genuine chance came only in the 28th minute when Djeni struck from distance but came close. Ju Ferreira then tried from outside the box, her effort also going wide. As the match approached half-time with the score level, Fluminense broke the deadlock. Raquel Fernandes sent a cross into the box and Nath Rodrigues was on hand to finish. From the resulting restart, Mariana hit the crossbar before the referee ended the first half.
The second half began with a different outlook, and Mengão had a goal ruled out through Cristiane in the opening minutes. In the 8th minute, Fabi Simões won possession in midfield and played an excellent pass for Laysa, who struck a fine shot to level the score at 1-1. Sixteen minutes later, Fabi Simões tried her luck from distance but just missed. However, when Flamengo appeared to be taking control, the defence switched off and Driely restored Fluminense's advantage. From that point on, the Meninas da Gávea pressed for an equalizer but could not find the breakthrough, and must now win to secure their place in the semi-finals.
