Flamengo took a decisive step toward the semi-finals of the Brazilian Women's Championship with a 1-0 victory over Ferroviária at Estádio Luso Brasileiro on Saturday afternoon. A commanding performance, capped by midfielder Mariana's clinical finish in the third minute, leaves Celso Silva's side in control ahead of next week's return fixture.
Match Report
Flamengo announced their intentions early. Cristiane collected possession in depth, drove forward and delivered a cross into the box. Ferroviária's Grazy miskicked her attempted clearance, and Mariana—the number 10—made no mistake: 1-0. The goal set the tone. Fernanda had an excellent opportunity moments later but could not find a way past goalkeeper Luciana. As the half progressed, Ferroviária steadied the ship and applied pressure. Sissi tested goalkeeper Vivi Holzel twice; both efforts were comfortably kept out.
The second half proved tighter and less fluid, with clear-cut openings at a premium. Yet Flamengo's intensity never wavered. Right-back Monalisa stood out as a commanding presence, winning every individual duel and providing composure in defence. Fernanda, wearing number 22, was equally tireless—breaking up play, sliding in fearlessly, dribbling past opponents and rousing a jubilant crowd. In the 30th minute, Mariana ventured into the penalty area and forced Luciana into a near-miraculous save. Late in the match, Silva introduced Layza Cavalcanti, Maisa and academy graduate Anna Luiza, whose responsibility and influence helped secure a comprehensive victory in front of Flamengo's travelling support.
