Flamengo announced Wednesday morning that it has received a report from the Maracanã Consortium regarding severe damage to the stadium following the Vasco vs. Boca Juniors match held on Tuesday, October 20, in the CONMEBOL South American Cup.
According to documentation provided to the club, hundreds of seats were destroyed, bathrooms and bars were vandalized, and access ramps and stadium signage were extensively damaged.
These acts of vandalism were committed by a section of supporters present at the venue, demonstrating a complete disregard for one of world football's most iconic stadiums and its heritage.
Flamengo has also been informed that the Maracanã Consortium is sparing no effort in the challenging task of repairing the damage and restoring the facility to host over 70,000 supporters who have sold out tickets for Flamengo vs. Estudiantes, a CONMEBOL Libertadores fixture.
The club has confidence in the competence and dedication of the professionals responsible for stadium operations, who worked through the night to address the consequences of an entirely unacceptable incident.
