50 appearances in and thriving: Emerson Royal reflects on Flamengo milestone

Emerson Royal arrived at Flamengo in July 2025 to begin a new chapter in a career spanning Brazil and Europe. Just over a year on, the 50-appearance milestone arrived in style — a commanding 3-0 victory over Botafogo last Sunday in the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Since his debut on 31 July 2025, facing Atlético Mineiro in the Copa do Brasil, the No. 22 has become integral to the Rubro-Negro's setup, etching memorable moments and significant achievements across his time at the club.

"Reaching 50 appearances in the Flamengo shirt is truly special, and it's particularly rewarding given the journey we're building together. Without question, this is one of the best moments of my career. I've learned so much here, achieved great things, and had the honour of wearing this shirt," the fullback reflected.

A São Paulo native, Emerson Royal began his career at Ponte Preta and progressed through Atlético Mineiro before establishing himself internationally. He has represented Real Betis, Barcelona, Tottenham and AC Milan, accumulating experience across different continents and competitions before returning to Brazilian football to join Flamengo.

During his maiden campaign, he collected six trophies. In his first year, he was part of the squads that won the CONMEBOL Libertadores, the Campeonato Brasileiro, the FIFA Deaflympics Derby and the FIFA Challenger Cup. In 2026, he featured in the campaigns for both the Campeonato Carioca and the Troféu do Algarve.

Beyond silverware and experience, the lateral has emphasised the bond forged with supporters. For Emerson Royal, the backing and demands of the Flamengo faithful have been instrumental in his development.

"I'm deeply grateful for the love from the supporters, who have stood by me throughout. They've backed me and pushed me hard because they believed in my potential. That's helped me grow immensely, both as a person and as a player."

With a contract running through the end of 2028, the No. 22 offered a simple reflection on what the milestone represents:

"I believe this milestone isn't just 50 games. It's *these* 50 games. It's a beautiful journey," he concluded.
