Flamengo claimed their fourth NBB win with a 91-87 victory over Brasília on Wednesday evening (November 4) at the Arena Nilson Nelson in matchday five of the Novo Basquete Brasil championship. The result marked the side's first away fixture of the campaign, beginning a two-game stretch away from Rio de Janeiro.
The visitors started strongly and built a commanding 17-point lead in the first half through controlled basketball and dominant rebounding. Brasília rallied after the interval and levelled the tie in the third quarter, but Flamengo showed character to reclaim the lead and secure a hard-fought victory in the closing minutes. Yago Mateus and Alex Negrete delivered strong performances from the perimeter, whilst Sam Freeman made his presence felt in the paint, recording a double-double and providing crucial rebounds and blocks down the stretch.
Flamengo now travel to Paraná to face Pato Basquete on Saturday (7 November) at 7pm BRT at the Ginásio do Sesi, looking to extend their winning run.
First quarter
Flamengo dominated early proceedings, opening an 11-4 advantage in the opening minutes with three-pointers from Luis Montero, Yago Mateus and Douglas dos Santos. Brasília responded with perimeter shooting and drew level at 15-15, but Flamengo regained control with two Negrete triples and strong contributions from Sam Freeman and Yan Djalo in the paint. With Yago orchestrating play and the offence flowing collectively, the visitors extended their advantage to 11 points to close the opening quarter 33-25.
Second quarter
Flamengo maintained their tempo in the second period, extending the lead through three-pointers from Negrete, Douglas dos Santos and Yago Mateus, reaching a 15-point margin at 42-27. Offensive rebounding from Ruan Miranda and Freeman proved decisive in maintaining control. Brasília attempted a comeback with Buiú threes, but Flamengo's Negrete and Yan Djalo—who added two three-pointers late in the quarter—answered every threat. Consistent shooting and rebounding dominance allowed Flamengo to head into the interval leading 59-46.
Third quarter
Flamengo returned from the break with a 13-point advantage but faced an increasingly aggressive Brasília, who closed the gap through Cylla, Fernández and Raymundo. Freeman continued to dominate inside with another strong showing towards a double-double, and a Yan Djalo three-pointer pushed the lead to 10 (69-59). However, the home side grew into the quarter down the stretch, capitalising on Flamengo errors and cutting the deficit. A late Buiú three-pointer levelled matters at 73-73, setting up a decisive fourth quarter.
Fourth quarter
Flamengo opened the final period with intensity and quickly reclaimed the lead, with Emanuel scoring four consecutive points and Yago Mateus adding a three to establish a seven-point buffer (80-73). Brasília fought back to cut it to two, but Flamengo remained composed, responding through Yago and a Freeman dunk. In the closing stages, the home side pressed hard, but Flamengo's defence held firm with crucial blocks from Freeman and a decisive Yago three. With just under a minute remaining, Luis Montero extended the advantage with an assisted finish from Negrete, and Flamengo closed out the game to seal a 91-87 victory, claiming their fourth win of the campaign.
