Flamengo claimed a commanding 93–73 victory over Oberá on Saturday night (24th) at the Maracanãzinho, in the second round of Group D action in the South American Basketball League. With the result, the Carioca side extended their unbeaten record to 2–0 in the competition and moved to the brink of qualification for the quarter-finals. Only an unlikely combination of results in the final round can now prevent Rubro-Negro from advancing.
In another standout collective display, Flamengo imposed an intense, physical rhythm from the opening tip, controlling the tempo and building a comfortable margin on the scoreboard. Even after an Oberá resurgence in the second quarter, Mengão maintained their superiority—particularly in the second half—and sealed the triumph with a decisive 20-point buffer.
Mengão returns to the court tomorrow, Sunday (25th), at 20:10 local time to face Defensor Sporting of Uruguay in the final group-stage encounter at the Maracanãzinho. Earlier in the evening, at 17:10, Paisas and Oberá will meet in the opening fixture of the round. Flamengo are targeting confirmation of their passage and outright group leadership.
First Quarter
Oberá opened with a three-pointer, but Flamengo answered swiftly with a layup from Yago and a thunderous dunk from Djalo to seize control. After an even start, Rubro-Negro began dictating pace and extended their lead through a three-ball from Montero. Mengão built momentum throughout, with Didi excelling as he rattled off five consecutive points, capped by a striking dunk. Late in the frame, Montero added a bucket and drew a foul, and Flamengo closed the first quarter ahead 27–15.
Second Quarter
The second quarter began at a slower tempo, with both sides struggling offensively. After a sluggish opening, Oberá found their rhythm and led 10–5 in the quarter, trimming Flamengo's advantage to seven points. The Cariocas rallied throughout the period to restore parity, though they lost Didi to an ejection. In the closing moments, the Argentine outfit converted a three-pointer. At the half, Mengão led 43–36.
Third Quarter
Flamengo returned from the break in accelerated mode and dominated third-quarter play. With three-pointers from Yago and Montero, Rubro-Negro pushed the margin to 17 points, making it 60–43. Yago orchestrated Flamengo's offense brilliantly and finished the quarter with 10 points, helping Mengão stay in control. Superior on both ends of the floor, Flamengo won the third by 28–18 and entered the final frame with a commanding 71–54 lead.
Fourth Quarter
With their advantage in place, Flamengo entered the final quarter with composure and expertly managed the game. The sides exchanged baskets in the opening minutes, but Rubro-Negro consistently had the better of the exchanges. A three-pointer from Djalo put Mengão at 85–63, and they won that stretch 14–9. Never allowing Oberá a genuine opening, Flamengo maintained control through the final buzzer and confirmed a 93–73 victory, securing their passage into the next phase of the South American League.
