Flamengo Defeats Sampaio Corrêa 3-0 in State Championship U-20 Quarter-Final

Flamengo moved into commanding position in the Campeonato Estadual U-20 quarter-finals on Saturday. The Nest Boys defeated Sampaio Corrêa 3-0 at Estádio Lourival Gomes in Saquarema in the first leg of the knockout stage.

Rafael Henrique, known as Rafinha, opened the scoring, Diego Reyes extended the lead from a free-kick, and Juliano sealed the Rubro-Negro victory.

With a starting XI averaging 18 years and two months, the Mais Querido built a commanding advantage ahead of the return fixture next Saturday (31st) at Gávea.

The Match

Despite playing away from home, Flamengo dominated and showcased clinical finishing to build their scoreline. The Nest Boys started with intensity and broke the deadlock in the tenth minute of the first half. Enzo Pinheiro provided the assist for Rafinha to beat the goalkeeper and put the Rubro-Negro in front.

The goal was Rafinha's seventh of the season. The striker is tied with Jhefinho as the team's third-leading scorer in 2026, behind only Josmar with 18 goals and Victor Hugo with nine.

In the closing stages of the opening period, at the 50-minute mark, Diego Reyes made it 2-0 from a free-kick. The Mexican marked his first goal for the Querido.

In the second half, Flamengo maintained control of the contest and, at the 40-minute mark, sealed the victory through Juliano.

Signed in September from Red Bull Bragantino, the striker reached his third goal in the Rubro-Negro shirt.

The three-goal advantage leaves Flamengo in strong position for the return quarter-final fixture of the State Championship U-20. Sitting third in the Taça Guanabara standings with nine wins in 11 matches, the Rubro-Negro are targeting a semi-final spot.
