Flamengo swimming has another major challenge ahead as the season progresses. Between August 31 and September 4, 16 athletes from the Rio club will compete at the Troféu José Finkel at Esporte Clube Pinheiros in São Paulo.
The Rubro-Negro delegation comprises Ana Luiza Correa Daisson, Bento Gobetti Geleilate, Betina Trigo Braga, Davi dos Santos Siqueira Sacramento, Isabel Soares Fagundes, Joice Otero Rocha, Lucca Cruz Tonin, Luiz Daniel Costa Moura, Maitê Araujo Gregório, Manuel Gerardo Diaz Bencomo, Pedro Henrique Oliveira Medrado, Rayssa de Souza Bonfim, Rayssa Isabelle Piaotkiewicz, Renata Branchi Moreira, Stephan Alexander de Freitas Steverink and Thaynara Nascimento Lago dos Santos.
Among the standouts is Stephan Steverink. One of Flamengo's brightest swimmers this season, Steverink arrives at the Finkel competition on the back of a six-medal haul at the Troféu Maria Lenk in May, four of which were gold.
Beyond individual accolades, the competition holds special significance for athletes developed through Flamengo's academy system. Ana Luiza Daisson, who has represented the club since age nine, underscored the deep connection forged over her career.
"I am very proud to represent Flamengo in another competition. I have been swimming here since I was nine years old, so this club shaped me and made me the athlete I am today. It means everything to wear this shirt," Ana said.
Manuel Bencomo is another squad member arriving at Finkel on the back of a podium finish at Maria Lenk. The swimmer claimed gold in the 100m butterfly and now targets another significant milestone in his season.
"The outlook is very positive. My preparation for the Troféu José Finkel has been excellent. We also have the South American Games ahead. So I'm very optimistic about both competitions," Manuel said.
