Sesc RJ Flamengo Claim SuperVolley Cup After Dramatic Comeback Against Dentil Praia

Sesc RJ Flamengo claimed the Copa SuperVôlei title on Saturday night with a remarkable comeback victory over Dentil Praia Clube at Arena Niterói. Down two sets to none, the red-and-black side fought back to win 3-2, with set scores of 18-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22 and 15-10, capturing their first trophy of the 2026/27 campaign.

After a sluggish opening two sets, Flamengo found their rhythm from the third set onwards, gradually clawing their way back into contention. The decisive fifth set proved decisive, with the team controlling proceedings to seal a 15-10 victory and spark jubilation among the crowd at Arena Niterói. Earlier in the triangular tournament, Flamengo had dispatched Fluminense 3-1.

Under interim coach Helio Griner—stepping in while Bernardinho fulfils his commitments with the Brazilian national team—Flamengo's bench strength proved crucial to their turnaround. Wing spiker Mikaela and setter Giovana both made telling impacts after coming on during the match, while new signing opposite Jaque Schmitz delivered when called upon.

"This victory shows our strength as a team and gives us real confidence moving forward," Mikaela said. "Even when things got tough, we stuck together and found our way through."

Opposite Tainara led the way with 25 points, with American wing spiker Simone Lee contributing 17 and middle blocker Lorena adding 15 in an assured team display.

Tainara, who struggled with her serving early in the match, praised her team's resilience: "The most important thing was our attitude and character. It was a very difficult match—I had my moments where things didn't go my way—but there was no shortage of courage and unity from everyone. We know we have things to work on before the Superliga begins, but now we celebrate this first trophy and keep pushing hard. We're on the right track."

Flamengo's next outing comes at the All-Star Game on October 3 at 7 p.m., when they face Dentil Praia Clube once more in Campo Bom, Rio Grande do Sul.
